Magnitude @ Festivals

My latest animation "The Magnitude of the Continental Divides" has been doing well so far:

FlashBelt

I have been invited to speak at the 2009 FlashBelt conference in Minneapolis, June 7-10. I will be talking about Interfacing Good Information; you can read about it and register to attend (hint, hint) here.

Denver Biennial and DU

During the Fall 2009 and Winter 2010 quarters, DMS and eMAD will be offering a unique joint program, “Designing Good Information.”

The Denver Office of Cultural Affairs is planning a city-wide event during the summer of 2010, the Biennial of the Americas: In Good We Trust in which education will play a leading role and in this endeavor DOCA has presented a unique opportunity to the University of Denver to create content for this event. The city-wide exposition is a new model for a Biennial that creates exhibitions, events, and new tools to visualize and act upon a movement of social entrepreneurs and creative innovators who work at the intersection of science and design for the public good.

Students will work together and in collaboration with community researchers and thinkers in fields such as ecology, technology, and energy to produce visualizations, creative mappings and technologically engaging presentations to educate and inspire the Denver community and beyond to work together in creating a better future for all. Made with Slideshow Embed Tool

digitalcoleman.blogspot.com is Born

In order to share many of the files I build for my courses, I have started a blog, digitalcoleman.blogspot.com. I hope many will find it useful, as I have been using so many resources from others, I hope to give back to the gadget/physical computing community. Most of the files will be concerned with Arduino, Processing, Flash, and Max all interfacing with sensors, servos, and wii nunchucks to name a few.

The Magnitude of the Continental Divides is finished!!!

At long last my new animation has been completed and will be premiering at my solo show at Lump Gallery in April 2009. Soon after it will be a part of a group show at the University of Buffalo. In May I will make an SD version available here on the site for everyone to enjoy. I am looking forward to sharing the video as much as possible and moving on to some of the many other exciting projects I have in the works.

Website overhaul

Welcome to the latest iteration of DigitalColeman. Seeing as how I teach about online presence, I have to keep the site looking up to date. This of course causes no end of trouble, but alas, this is the age we find ourselves in.

17 Days

I have been invited to include "Collusion" into the "17 Days" show being coordinated by Adrianne Little at Western Michigan University. "17 days is a curated video series for the plasma screens at the Richmond Center Art Galleries. The concept of 17 Days is that there will be 17 days selected throughout both the spring and fall semesters, beginning with the spring 2008 semester. On each of the 17 days, 1 artist will be featured and their video will play all day on the day that they are assigned. One artist’s video work per selected day will play continuously and simultaneously on both of the 52” plasma screens, one on the first floor and one on the second floor, located at the front entrance of the Richmond Center for Visual Art."

Collaboration with Michael Salter

Michael Salter has an amazing show up at Jeff Bailey Gallery in NYC. We have been working together to bring a few of his stunning yet subtle images to life through animation. The first can be seen at the show, stay tuned for the rest, all available in stunning HD.

Particulate at the Vox Populi

Following it's debut in Eugene at LumpWest Gallery, Particulate has traveled to Philidelphia to be shown at Vox Populi Gallery. Particulate is a show of ten diverse and internationally known artists who have packaged their visual inspections for playback on micro players, curated by myself(Chris Coleman). These mp4 players, often illegally labeled as ipods range from 1" to 2.5" diagonal, offer very affordable and intimate venues for these introspective works. These thirteen particulate samples were gathered from across the US and Canada to settle briefly in Philadelphia. Packets blown about in the passing traffic of the tubes abandoned by DARPA. The dust of dangerous bodies and cultures are collected, appropriated, examined, codecs have been applied, solid state storage units feed Chinese liquid crystal micro displays, photons are filtered and scattered. To ensure public safety, all specimens are simulated in small form, isolated, and displayed behind glass. Artists included in the show are Laleh Mehran, dNASAb, GARhodes & Chris Ernst of The Buffalo Super Friends, Adriane Little, Tom Bendtsen, Adam Weekley, Alexander Reyna, Colin Ives, Christopher Borkowski, and James Humphrey.
