Informational Divides

ongoing series, mixed media, 2007

The Informational Divide series uses much of the same iconography to concentrate on the ways national identity is crafted and manipulated. We position ourselves around borders created for the sole purpose of exclusion and division. The divided lands create divided people who look to a homogenized set of qualities to summarize why they are different and superior to another group. Pride of this differentiation is harnessed by some to create power structures focused on carrying out goals “for the greater good.” For ease of interrogation, the levels of discourse have been physically separated into three parts: the identity and the constructed place, the currents of fear and control used to hold those identities together, and the “natural” physical plane as we demark it.
