Liminal View

interactive installation, collaboration with Chris Galbraith and Ryan Shoelerman, 2003

The installation creates a hyper-awareness of the increasingly abundant surveillance we live with today. When the camera turns to look at you, the heat and brilliance of the floodlight cannot be ignored; you are the criminal caught in the act. This confrontation occurs only when the viewer gives in to their voyeuristic tendencies. The relationship between watching and being watched grows increasingly intertwined. It is the proliferation of “voyeur/reality” shows, movies, and websites that help make the ever-watchful cameras and data taps increasingly acceptable.
